Comment/Description

The affect of shame establishes social norms, values, and borders, both in the sense of border-creating and border-crossing. In this course, we want to explore how these socio-cultural dynamics transpire in cultural productions in the form of Post-Celtic Tiger Irish novels, novels in which the (new) cultural, social, and ideological borders that have emerged in the course of Irish globalisation are negotiated and juxtaposed against old ones. For this, please obtain copies of Sally Rooney’s novel Conversations with Friends, Naoise Dolan's Exciting Times as well as Mike McCormack's Solar Bones. Theoretical texts will be made available for download.
