Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this course, we will examine conceptions and representations of the African Diaspora, paying attention to the ways in which gender, race, class, and nationality, among others, intersect in the context of transnational and transcultural migration—both forced and voluntary—across time and space. The reading of Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing (2016) and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah (2013) will be supplemented by essays and short stories on the topic to explore the ways in which questions of (cultural) identity, community, home and belonging are (re)negotiated both in the novels and other discourses on the African diaspora.

Students are expected to buy and read the following novels:
Adichie, Chimamanda Ngozi. Americanah. Fourth Estate, 2014.
Gyasi, Yaa. Homegoing. Penguin Random House, 2016.

Other texts and materials will be provided via Digicampus.

For the 2-course-module EAS-1411, this PS is to be combined with the Ü "Narrative Analysis: Short Fiction of the African Diaspora" (Nadine Ellinger).

Anmelderegeln

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "ALW/ELW/NELK: Aufbaumodul BA/LA: PS".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 20.02.2023 bis 01.03.2023 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 03.03.2023.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 06.03.2023 und endet am 10.04.2023.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 06.03.2023, 08:00 bis 10.04.2023, 12:00.
  • Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 10.04.2023 um 12:05 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
