Kommentar/Beschreibung

In this course, we will consider American poetry from the 1800 to the present. Though we will necessarily have to make do with a selection of poems, our aim will be to trace common themes in poems from different time periods places and circumstances. We will consider how poetry, a form of “language that says more and says it more intensely than does ordinary language” (Arp), lends expression to emotions, voices grievances, serves to show off skill, lays claim to having once voice included, captures surroundings, and seeks to make us pay attention to things we otherwise overlook… We will also examine how individual poems or works by specific authors mirror historical developments, or serve as examples for specific artistic movements.

While formal elements and genre will play a role in the seminar, these will be a matter of more intense focus in the accompanying poetry analysis. If you are taking this class for the EAS-1411 module, please make sure that you also sign up for the poetry analysis (you are free to any one of the poetry analysis courses offered that fits into your schedule).

Diese Veranstaltung gehört zum Anmeldeset "ALW/ELW/NELK: Aufbaumodul BA/LA: PS".
Studierende der Anglistik/Amerikanistik und des Faches Englisch können sich bereits während der vorgezogenen Anmeldephase zur Sicherstellung des Studienfortschritts für die Aufbau- und Vertiefungsmodule anmelden. Hierzu wird ein gewisses Kontingent der Kursplätze im Zeitraum vom 20.02.2023 bis 01.03.2023 für die Anmeldung geöffnet. Die Verteilung der Plätze erfolgt am 03.03.2023.
Bitte beachten Sie, dass in dieser Anmeldephase Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern bei der Verteilung der Plätze priorisiert werden.
Die allgemeine Anmeldephase beginnt am 06.03.2023 und endet am 10.04.2023.
Folgende Regeln gelten für die Anmeldung:
  • Die Anmeldung ist möglich von 06.03.2023, 08:00 bis 10.04.2023, 12:00.
  • Die Anmeldung zu maximal 1 Veranstaltungen des Anmeldesets ist erlaubt.
  • Es wird eine festgelegte Anzahl von Plätzen in den Veranstaltungen verteilt.
    Die Plätze in den betreffenden Veranstaltungen wurden am 10.04.2023 um 12:05 verteilt. Weitere Plätze werden evtl. über Wartelisten zur Verfügung gestellt.
